Gutters Overflowing?
If you have gutters overflowing in heavy rain, water running behind the fascia, or leaks coming down the walls, the problem may not be the roof at all. It is often the roof drainage.
The usual causes are undersized gutters, downpipes that cannot take the volume, a box gutter that has lost its fall, or a rainhead with no working overflow.
Left alone, water finds the fascia, the eaves and eventually the frame, which turns a guttering job into a carpentry one.

Usually because the gutter or the downpipes cannot carry the volume the roof is sending them, or because the fall is wrong. Cleaning helps if it is debris, but if it overflows when clean the system is undersized and needs rethinking rather than clearing.
A box gutter sits within the roof rather than at the edge, usually between two roof planes or behind a parapet. They carry a lot of water, and because they are inside the building line, a blockage or a lost fall puts water where it does real damage. They need correct fall, a properly sized sump and a working overflow.
Yes, and it is worth doing. Standing water in a box gutter shortens its life and eventually finds a way out. Re-falling it, and correcting the sump and overflow while we are there, fixes the cause.
They matter more than people expect. An overflow gives water somewhere safe to go when the outlet blocks, which is the difference between water spilling outside the building and water backing up into the roof.
