Hot Water Repair Questions
On an electric storage system it is most often the element or thermostat, and sometimes the circuit itself. On gas it is more likely an igniter, burner or gas supply issue. Both are common and both are usually repairable, so it is worth having it looked at before assuming you need a new unit.
It depends on the fault and the age of the unit. A failed element or thermostat on a sound cylinder is well worth repairing. A cylinder that has corroded through is not, because the tank is the unit. We will tell you which one you have rather than defaulting to a replacement.
Treat it as urgent. Some discharge from the relief valve is normal, but a steady leak or pooling water usually means the cylinder has failed and it can let go properly. Turn the water off to the unit if you can and call us.
Often yes. It can be a failed element or thermostat in a two-element system, a tempering valve issue, or simply a unit that is undersized for how many people are using it. We will work out which, and if it is a sizing problem we will tell you what would suit.
